Stained Glass Windows of First Christian Church
The Stained Glass Windows of First Christian Church in Portland, Oregon, are unique among churches belonging to the denomination known as the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The present sanctuary, build in 1922, originally contained 118 art glass windows created by David Povey, Portland artisan. These windows and their depiction of both Christian faith and Disciple history continue to enhance the beauty of the sanctuary and the worship held there. The Christmas windows in the Chapel, the images of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in the Narthex, and the window of Jesus' baptism located over the Broadway (Street) entrance all witness to the ageless gospel story.
